arrival of the thirties

so.... is it good luck to see a semi-famous, probably gay man (josh johnson of hgtv's "design star" - think "sparkle!") shopping in the women's department of the saks outlet on your 30th birthday? i'm gonna go ahead and say it is! thanks james, kalei, koa, & kawelo for being so excited for my birthday and making it so sweet and special - i love you!!!!

p.s. i love the look on kawelo's face - is it awe.....confusion.....we just don't know!

Journal Masthead

Here's props to Kam's awesome design that is now the masthead for our new journal: the International Journal of Exercise Science (http://www.intjexersci.com)

After a few days of promoting the journal at our national conference in Indianapolis, her design has now been seen in at least the following countries: Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, Peru, Mexico, Italy, England, Malaysia, Singapore, Nigeria, Jordan...

today was the last day of school for kalei, so we thought we'd show a bit of what she's been doing lately. kalei's kindergarten put on a zoo performance (note the cages), and kalei was a bear. the bears did this cute dance to a japanese song, "kumasan," but our video camera's battery was dead and we didn't know it till we tried to record! bummer! but, we did get a few pictures and a little video of the end of the program.

kalei is the second bear from the left in the video.

so the other day kalei and i were in the kitchen working on assorted projects (i think she was drawing and i was making cards) and i started singing like the singing frog from the warner bros. cartoon. (you know, the one where the frog only sings for the construction worker and not any of the producers he takes the frog to.) so, picture me: "hello my, baby! hello, my honey! hello, my ragtime gaaaalllllll! send me a kiss by wiiiiiiiiiire! baby, my heart's on fiiiiiiiiiire!" and kalei calmly looks around the room and says: "I wish it were quiet in here." ouch!

here are some of the candidates that are eligible for picture frames. i'm sure it would've been interesting to be a fly on the wall while the kids and i were having our photo shoots ("go sit next to your brother. hug him, please. i said hug him!"), but the kids had fun and were their silly selves and now we have over 100 pictures that totally capture the moments. how did we ever survive without digital cameras?!
