koa is showing more interest in the potty. so far, he has only actually done something on the potty once, but we're encouraged that he'll sit on it. since this picture, koa has selected a bob the builder potty seat. now he doesn't have to worry about falling in. :) -bess

oh, i'm so J.
when ty needs to "go" he will run into an unoccupied room and hide behind a chair or door. if we find him in the process, he will shake his head and finger violently as we recoil. i think he is embarassed. we always encourage him and he even know's about the special treat (chocolate doughnut) if he tries, but he is scared of the big potty. i ordered one the other day, so when it arrives, maybe that will give him more incentive to just TRY it!
GOOD LUCK and give me some tips too!
kalai would do the hiding in the closet thing too. it's good because they can recognize the feeling. i know it's gross to clean up but the little potty with the pan in it worked great for kalai because she was also terrified of the big one. after she got the process down, she switched pretty easy over to the big toilet. it also helped to have a stool at the toilet so she wasn't just hanging off it but had something to keep her feet on. sani, on the other hand, never used the little one once. she'll try anything and since kalai was going on the big toilet, so was she. i have a feeling akela will be more like sani. she tries to climb everything in site. good luck!
thanks! we got a little potty for kalei, but she was so NOT interested in it that we finally got her a dora potty seat insert thingy (it fits inside the big potty seat - koa's potty seat is the same way). i wasn't sad - i had absolutely no interest in cleaning the little potty! koa is willing to sit on the big potty since he sees kalei do it, and they have a stepstool in their bathroom to make it easier to reach the potty and sink. we haven't tried bribery with koa - we used it with kalei but found that kids will potty train when they are ready, and not before. (we tried to get her to use the potty before she was ready and it was just too frustrating for everyone!) just give it time, malia. :) he'll get it before he goes to kindergarten! :)! -bess
I definitely think the 2nd child is way easier than the first at potty training mainly cause they already see a kid doing the deed. With Anela, she seemed to not have such a hard time and it wasn't as traumatic as with Ilima (although I know my friend is having a really hard time with her 2nd).
Good luck with Koa!
