new & improved
well, i finally did it. i procrastinated and made excuses until i couldn't ignore the fact that the boys needed haircuts.... BAD. so, with clippers in hand, i buzzed kawelo. it was fabulous. he didn't cry or fuss - just took it in stride. james wasn't even holding him - i plunked him down backwards in his baby tub. revelation: no matter how koa squirms and cries, the clippers are not a torture device. that gave me the confidence i needed to face tropical storm koa. koa doesn't enjoy getting his hair cut. normally, we bribe him with suckers (about 6 - they have to be replaced often since haircut suckers tend to get hairy) and james has to hold him and secure his head so that i can shave the sides and back and finger-cut the top (with his scar, i can't just shave the whole thing). this time, however, i used my head. what does koa love? movies. what has been our best purchase ever? a portable dvd player. hello?! why has this not occurred to me before? koa sat all by himself during the haircut. he still got suckers, but only complained if hair fell on him or i was blocking his view of the movie. i'm not saying that this was such a wonderful experience that i will be sure to give him a haircut every 3-4 weeks, but maybe, just maybe, i won't wait three months between trims. :)

they are so cute! the hair cuts look good. So far I haven't worried about giving my girls a cut. My girls hair grows so slow and poor things just wish that they could have long hair. Actually, Ilima's is pretty long, it just looks a lot shorter because of the curl!
i just don't know what mom's did before movies existed! yeah books are good but there are times when they just don't cut it... prime example here. such cuties!!
Cute pictures! I wish movies would still work with my boys.....or that their hair would grow slower......
there's always the candy/junk food angle, jenny! :) -bess
what handsome sons you have! and good job, bess. i think you should charge for your services, ;)
we just cut ty's hair last week and it was torture! we thought that our neighboors would call child services. seriously! ty was screaming "no thank you daddy! no thank you!" it was so sad...
we will DEFINITLY try this method next time. duh! we should have thought of it too rather than having ty clawing into me with his death grip yet still squirming like a banchee!
:)
why do boys hate to get their hair cut so much? sillies. :) -bess :)
BESS-- I just found your blog through Jeni's blog. I love reading blogs, read dozens a day, but I have yet to start one. I think I like reading other people's better. Will respond to your email you sent me a very very long time ago. And hooray -- that new baby Navalta is a handsome boy.
