great expectations
perhaps jumping right into calorie counting was a bit lofty in the goal setting department. apparently i am unable to go cold turkey on sugar at this time. there are two, sometimes three, times during the day when i get munchy: late morning, mid-afternoon, and late evening. i prowl the kitchen looking for just the right snack, and rarely does celery hit the spot. however, i am working on making healthy-ish calorie substitutions. for example, instead of ice cream, i'll pick an ice pop. still technically empty calories, but less of them, right? that's a step in the right direction! :) and it's a frozen liquid, so it's almost like having a cup of kool-aid, and that kinda meets part of the eight daily glasses of water recommendation! i'm telling you, i'm this close to a healthy diet... or an honorary degree in rationalization. :)

Hey, you're doing just fine. You know I learned from Kam that cool whip has much less calories and sugar than syrup...so from now on we're eating our pancakes with whip cream! You know, that's my effort in going for the healthier version of things!
that's a good one - i never knew! :) -bess
it's all about baby steps for me. i've gone cold turkey on the no sugar thing several times now (tui has done it once - successfully). as you can tell with multiple attempts, mine were never successful. i've finally realized that i will never do it because i don't WANT to do it. i enjoy that stuff too much. but i also look for better substitutes like you are doing. another thing that i think is also working for me, which was more difficult, was not eating past a certain time. i make my time dinner since we eat at different times sometimes and you can't skip dinner just because it happens to be after 7pm - at least in my book. it was hard at first but i told myself i can eat what ever i want (just a little of some things) as long as it was before dinner was through. then, i saw on oprah's best life diet show that it's good to have that hunger feeling at night because if you don't eat, it feeds on fat (which is the common enemy, right?) anyway, now i don't even feel hungry at night. i hope that doesn't means that my fat cells are no longer being affected.
